Composite Info
We supply the yearbook directly to your school -it is included in your session along with a
composite picture if needed. The composite: The composite is one big pic with small portraits and is seperate from the yearbook.
The printer of the composite often requires $20 to put
your picture into the composite. The composite is sometimes displayed at the school. Many
students are content to be in the yearbook only. In Dexter the composite picture we create is
delivered by the student directly to the composite provider-and the deadline is 10 weeks later.
In Pinckney the composite picture is forwarded from the yearbook advisor to the printer. At
Pioneer Ann Arbor there is no composite.
Clothing Tips:
Did you
know that your choice of clothing can make you look slimmer or heavier?
For The wrong clothing--clothing that shows off your
upper arm, or that is light colored, or that has horizontal
stripes--can make you look heavier than you are. This can be great if
you are a wrestler, but not so great if you are not!
To
look slimmer, wear darker shades. Also, stripes can
make you look much heavier than you really are. So avoid
stripes if possible. This will help you to look as slim as
possible in your portraits.
Clothing Tips for Senior Gals:
Bring long
sleeve top in addition to sleeveless styles. Better yet match a
jacket or sweater with your favoite shortsleeve top to allow ease in
changing your look while we are out and about making your portraits. For
girls the biggest problem is wearing SLEEVELESS tops for ALL the
portraits! This is a problem!
Beware: a bare upper arm can make you look much heavier than
you really are!!! For a formal head-and shoulder
yearbook portrait, a bare upper arm is also very distracting
to the eye. We want your friends to look at your
face in your portrait, not at your arm! Multiple straps are also distracting.
Look for
Color
you feel good in and
textures you like. If you are wanting a classic feel in your
portrait, avoid bright or busy patterns in your clothing.
Clothing Tips for Senior Guys:
For
guys the biggest clothing problem is having a 'too informal' look for
the yearbook head-and-shoulders portrait. We've seen guys who
decided to wear a sweater, or shirt-no-tie for the yearbook portrait
who later wished they had donned the shirt, tie and
jacket! It only takes a little prep to
get the right look and it is really worth it! For the
head-and-shoulders portrait, your pants will not show so this makes it
a bit more comfortable!
If you
are going to wear a shirt and tie (no jacket) in your portrait, wear a
dark shirt . Try for a shirt that fits
well around your neck--not too loose. A light or
white shirt worn alone with a tie is 'too bright' and
distracting. If you are wearing a shirt and tie with jacket
or part of a suit, that'll look great.! It is fine
to wear a white shirt with tie &
jacket. A sweater can also look
very sharp with a jacket over it.
Shoes
for guys can be distracting if they are beat up and white.
Socks too, can show in some poses, so bring shoes and socks
you won't be embarrassed to have showing in your portraits.
Again,
choose colors and
textures you like. If you are wanting a classic feel in your
portrait, avoid bright or busy patterns in your clothing.
TIP: What about a Less-than-Perfect
Complexion...or my braces?
Everyone
has less than perfect skin! This is really no secret. So part
of our normal portrait work at Photo Generations involves removing
all
skin blemishes for adults. So you do not have to worry about having
zits!
This is
called 'retouching' in the professional portrait world. Retouching is
sometimes called 'artwork' because it takes a trained artist to finish
the images. This artwork is one of several essential steps we take to
make your pictures here true portraits! Otherwise, you would have
something closer to a snapshot.

Also if
you have braces or other special concerns just ask us. We can take
extra steps to make your portrait most pleasing to you. Hair Tips for Senior Gals:
For
girls the biggest hair problem is fly-away hair. The best
solutions are: 1) have your hair done before your session
with a trusted stylist. 2) Bring along a friend or your
mom to play 'hair police' . During our session we
we'll be moving around quite a bit in the studio and outside, so it is
always handy to have an extra hand to adjust the few pieces of hair
that do not like to cooperate! 3) Use a light hairspritz or
spray here at session to keep the fly-away hair in
place. IT really does work.
A second
hair issue is the length of your bangs; we want to see your
eyes! So, make sure we can.
If you
want variety we can plan your session around your hair
style. For instance, you might want a sophisticated
portrait with your hair up done early in the session then have your
hair down later for casual portraits made outdoors.
Hair Tips for Senior Guys:
For
guys the biggest hair problem is having your hair cut on your
portrait session day. Have your hair cut ONE TO TWO WEEKS
BEFORE our session together. This gives you time for the
haircut to 'grow in' and look natural. Also it gives a chance
for your suntan to even up around your face and neck.
TIP: How to avoid Poses Look 'Too
Stiff'
One
of the most common comments we hear from our clients is how natural
the portraits look. Our seniors love how good they look, but they also
love how "natural" they appear in the images.
At
Photo Generations we allow enough time in the session for you to warm
up and feel comfortable. This is important. After the first few
pictures are made, you will realize it is very natural. And
then you can experiment with different looks.
This is what makes the session so much fun for everyone! We
get to play around a little bit! We have enough time to try
serious looks, smiling looks, and relaxed poses. And the poses will
look very natural. And if you blink for a picture or two, that is okay.
I do not count the pictures we expose. We just make the images until we
have the right mix of feelings and outfits and backgrounds.
See what
a huge difference this will make in how you feel on the day of your
photography? You'll feel great.
So You'll be confident, and excited - not nervous and apprehensive.
A
big difference between Photo Generations and official portrait studios
is the amount of time and one-on-one attention you get here.
We allow
a minimum of 60 minutes for your session; We schedule only one session
at a time.
We
do not schedule sessions every 20 minutes as some production official
studios do. We have heard the photographers are allowed only
8 minutes
per outfit of portrait time! Other wise they will get behind
and the
seniors sceduled later in the day will have to wait for their session,
or worse, have their session time cut even shorter.
We don't
like to be rushed at Photo Generations, so that is why we allow so much
time.
TIP: You do NOT have to
go to your schools
'official' studio for your portraits!
(Please
note: it is okay to go and have the basic head & shoulders done
at the 'official' place, and then come to Photo Generations for your
creative portraits.)
Here is how
yearbook pictures work: Yearbooks are published in the winter, but
because there are so many graduates needing to get portraits made for
the publications, your Session must happen sometime in the summer
preceding the fall start of school. Each school has a different
deadline. The picture must be delivered to the school--and you need to
have the picture session 8 weeks prior to the deadline -- allowing 4
weeks after you choose your portrait- to have the yearbook portraits
printed to your yearbooks specifications. Most schools have
an
official yearbook studio. The School endorses the 'official' place in
return for sport and activity photographic coverage during the school
year.
You may
want your picture in the class composite. The composite is
different from the yearbook--it has a little picture of each class
member and often hangs on a wall in the school. Often the the
official studio will make you pay extra to accept a portrait into the
composite made at our studio. If the composite photo is
important to you you may be better off going to the official
studio--just for
your head and shoulders. You can still come to Photo
Generations
for your creative portraits. We will credit you $10 if you do
so.
Please
be aware THE OFFICIAL STUDIO MUST ACCEPT your yearbook portrait if it
is taken at a different studio! We always provide you with the portrait
for the yearbook at no charge.
Please call ASAP to reserve your
session!
